
Deputy Director of the McGowan Institute of Regenerative Medicine
Dr. Badylak is deputy director of the McGowan Institute of Regenerative Medicine and a professor in the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine’s Departments of Surgery and Bioengineering. He attended medical school at Indiana University and earned his DVM and PhD degrees from Purdue University. He holds more than 75 U.S. patents and 400 patents worldwide, has authored more than 425 scientific publications and 60 book chapters, and recently edited two textbooks: “Host Response to Biomaterials” and “Immunomodulatory Biomaterials.” He serves on the Immunology Advisory Board to the Medical Device Section of the FDA. More than 15 million patients have been treated with bioscaffolds developed in Dr. Badylak’s laboratory.
